Hi! I’m Julie Sims, an artist and teacher in Copperfield, Cypress, TX.

I create JOYFUL, UPLIFTING ART applied to products or prints meant to put a smile on your face! I share my love of art with students young and old in after-school and Saturday art classes.

I enjoy both traditional and digital methods for creating.

Some of my favorite media include watercolor, acrylic, gouache, and especially the app Procreate…it’s a game changer!

Nature, encouraging words and beauty found in simple things are main sources of inspiration for me and my art.

I grew up in New Jersey and Connecticut and have lived in Houston, Texas for most of my adult life.

Though I love Houston, I miss the changing seasons of New England, especially Fall with its explosive Autumn colors.

Many of my family members call Texas home, so it’s a pretty great place for me to be!

I loved art as a kid. Horses were my favorite thing to draw.

In elementary school, my best friend’s dad had a basement art studio where he drew the cover of the local TV guide. He was my hero.

Unsure how to make a living with art, I flip-flopped my major many times (which I strongly discourage). I ended up graduating with a BFA in Interior Design (many moons ago) and later got certified to teach art. I taught art for 10 years in public school, grades k-12. Teachers are truly some of the most amazing people on the planet!

One of my proudest accomplishments is learning digital art with the help of wonderful online instructors. I’m a huge fan of SKILLSHARE.

A few of my favorite things:

  • still love horses

  • obsessed with baby Yoda or Grogu

  • Nutella is my favorite guilty pleasure

  • Summer and all that goes with it

  • exercise to clear my mind and get me going

  • my art studio

  • listening to 80’s music (yes, I’m that old!)

  • my cute blue Mini Cooper

  • Gus, the best and maybe oldest dog ever
